CLEAN-FLIGHT

CLEAN-FLIGHT aimed to develop technologies, tools and procedures to allow aircraft to fly cleaner trajectories within Maltese airspace, thus contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions within this airspace.

Project Timeframe: 2011-2013
Project Locale: Local
Project Status: Closed

MCST National R&I Programme R&I-2011-021 (2011-2013)

The consortium consisted of QuAero Ltd. and the University of Malta (acting as lead partner), with Dr. Ing. Kenneth Chircop acting as coordinator.

Key outputs of CLEAN-FLIGHT were a design and recommendation of new routes to accommodate P-RNAV procedures to be flown in and out of Malta, and a flight management tool as well as the associated concept of operation (the procedure that will be used to operate the tool in flight) to allow the aircraft to be flown more advantageously in terms of emissions, fuel burn and operational costs. The tool was the subject of a patent application filed in the US. The US patent was granted on the 4th of October 2016.
